Drivers traveling on the M48 Severn Bridge faced significant delays Wednesday morning after a collision occurred on the eastbound carriageway. The incident, which took place between Junction 2 (Chepstow) and Junction 1 (Avonmouth) around 08:00 BST, led to all traffic being temporarily held, according to National Highways.
While recovery and cleanup efforts continue, one lane remains closed, and delays of approximately 30 minutes are expected for motorists. National Highways has advised drivers to plan ahead and expect some disruption during the morning commute.
This accident follows another traffic incident that took place overnight on the nearby M4 motorway. The eastbound lanes between Junction 23 (Chepstow) and Junction 22 (Avonmouth) were closed for several hours due to a car fire. The M4 was reopened around 05:15 BST, but residual delays may have added to the congestion in the region.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and allow extra time for their journeys while recovery operations are completed.
